Aung San Suu Kyi: Voice of Democracy for the Burmese People

          Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been in and out of detention imposed by the country’s ruling military junta since 1989. The National League for Democracy leader and 1991 Nobel Peace winner is now under house arrest in her Rangoon home, having been held there since May 2003. In February 2000, Suu Kyi sat down in her NLD office in Rangoon with Bernard Krisher, publisher of The Burma Daily, following an address before 300 members of her party at a Union Day celebration.
